With the SMC Takumar lenses, a Spotmatic F can meter at open aperture.
That means you can focus and get your meter reading without having to
stop down the lens manually. You just meter, focus, and shoot. With
earlier Super Takumar lenses, you have to push a switch that stops the
lens down in order to meter correctly. The difference in ease of use is
considerable. I now have only SMC Takumar lenses in my Spotmatic F kit.
BTW, the Spotmatic F is one of my favorite cameras. It's a beautiful machine.
