The big advantage of High Sierra is that it is able to read APFS drives.

I forget which version of OSX breaks a lot of things (like LR6) so that they no 
longer run on it.

Lately, OSX seems to follow the trend of iTunes where every new version seems 
to add a little bit more suck, but they mess things up so that you're forced to 
change.
