Around 1968, we were on holiday in Yugoslavia and my uncle sent a telegram that he had found a better flat for us (something you had to wait years for). My father spent 3 whole days at the post office before the call to my uncle in Cologne was put through. By 1970 you still had to go through the German "Fernamt" for a call to the South of France.
