Never too old to learn something new: Apparently we have a native species of Cornus and even local names like kenel, knel, kornel, kernoelje, konkernel. The name probably comes from the Greek kranaos (hard / solid). Now I need to go and find a Kornoelje in the wild. And now I need to know why it's called Dogwood in English.
