Yes, the result is very good.

We still have an Olympus C-500 compact (5Mp) & a Pentax K110D (6Mp) which both do quite well if you are prepared to use you feet or zoom to fill the frame. Useless for bird photography. 2 frame portrait Pano's double the Mp. I read an article on simulating a K1 using a K5 or K3 like that.

Two things surprised me: First is the quality of the images; and second is how 
much I could manipulate them in Lightroom. I was surprised to be able to adjust 
the exposure, sharpness, and contrast, and even use the brush.
