John - keep reading the thread... :-)  answer there and a nice link

I knew exactly where i was but not the name of individual peaks in the range. .. and I always do keep ALL the frames when I was shooting chromes , even if they are lemons, for the reason you mentioned.. in addition to extensive notes ... because i was shooting a lot for stock and I had to submit all info...

Dan and an Ansel Adams photo I saw on line got me a suitable answer..

You and I both often answer the original post, rather than the replies that people make who saw the post before we did...  I can tell or
you wouldn't have asked the question :-)

When I'm trying to figure out where I took a photograph and don't have the info at hand it sometimes helps if I can figure out where the images before and after were taken and see what Google maps will tell me about how to get from the "before" location to the "after" location.

It will often spark a memory.

In the high sierras of California  - it isn't mt Whitney  shape is wrong...  I'm sifting through old slides and notes but
haven't found it yet..  Possibly taken from the Inyo's .
