I had an idea about why I may have been having trouble with the colours in the 
sky.  I had assigned the Adobe RGB profile to the image when it may have 
actually been scanned to sRGB.

I've reassigned the profile and also applied the highlights & shadows tool 
which has allowed me to keep a lot more detail in the sky.  I brought out the 
shadows a little but there's very little detail to be had there.  Isn't slide 
film wonderful.

I just overwrote the image and discarded the original.  The updated version is 
at the same url:
