Long story short, the best bang for the buck I was able to find was a 16 core 2019 mac pro with 2TB SSD and 96GB ram for $1400, it was cometically "class C", class B would have been another $100.
They do seem to have a few more left in case anyone else is limping along with 2013 era or older mac hardware.
