Having nothing else to do tonight, I loaded up my camera bag with both Pentax
bodies and some lenses to get some photos at the annual Riverside Festival of
lights, planning on playing with shutter drag, and having enough gear that I
could do pretty much anything I'd likely want to (didn't bring a flash though,
welcome to the 21st century when I forget to bring a flash for night
photography). The plan was mostly for shooting with the 18-250 on the K3 and
the 15-30 on the K1.

I got downtown, set up the K3 in bulb, tried to take some pictures, and it just
didn't work. I'd click the shutter, everything would go black, nothing would
happen until i cycled the power. There was some weirdness in that the shutter
period would change if I twiddled the front dial. I was able to get some
photos in M, with the shutter speed set to about a second, but I gave up and
put the 18-250 on the K-1, put the K-1 in crop mode, saw the "bu" in the
viewfinder and everything was great until I tried to grab a snap on the hike
back to my car, when the K-1 had the same problem.

Long story short, if you are in "bulb" pressing the green button will take it
in and out of some other mode, I think it may be for shutter periods longer
than a second.

d'Oh!

I did RTFM, many times, but that detail fell out of my brain.
