Outdoor gear and paraphenaria is the most fashion prone out there. This includes
photography gear. Remember that 99% of the so-called nature shooters have never been
out in the real bush and used to shooting in herds in parking lots in overpopulated
national parks. Still they have strong opinions of what works under the adverse
condition they have never experienced. For those who work away from the crowds the
fashion value of your equipment becomes pretty meaningless unless you like brag about
it on the net. You'll find that hardly anyone working under remote conditions use the
fashionable gear.
