The Vivitar 283 or 285 should be fine for the K1000.I use an older Hanimax peanut type flash and have recently bought a used 285 and works well with the camera.The K1000 does not offer TTL flash so you will have to use the tables on the back of the flash.Not that hard,even i fiqured it out eventually:)
