Actually I'm not so sure anymore. The outer cover is indeed plastic as well as the 
focus and zoom rings. However, the aperture ring appear to be metal and also the main 
lens body that can be seen between the aperture ring and the lens mount. 
I did assume that the main front lens tube was plastic but now I'm not so sure. It is 
definitely injection moulded but it is made of a very hard substance. If it is plastic 
it's a damned hard variety. I wonder if it is magnesium? It does feel more like 
plastic to the touch though.

I have been using this lens for a few days now and it's certainly great to have a zoom 
lens in this focal length range. I'll say that a zoom lens for medium format, at least 
when they are as lightweight as this lens, makes a lot of sense as several MF wide 
angle primes weigths a lot. Carry many 35mm system lenses is one thing but carry a 
similar number of MF lenses could be overwhelming.
