This is not contradiction it's a mistaken assumption. The MZ-S is not a replacement for the Z-1p (in fact, Pentax almost never seem to replace any of their camera models: they go on to something different). The MZ-S is marketed as the flagship of the MZ-series. The Z-series is simply discontinued without replacement. The Z-1p wasn't really a sucessor of the LX either - same story. You may say that it is too bad that they didn't make successor of the Z-1p (there was one but it was shelved) but it bloody hell is too bad that they didn't make a successor for the LX as well. > The Pentax flagship has been strengthen on one side, but seriously weaken on the >other. It is deliberately designed different than the competition in order to created a unique product. The MZ-S strenght's are small size/weight and high built quality. In order to make it small you have to use small batteries something that precludes highly strung and battery hungry shutters and fast motordrives due to their excessive power consumption. The MZ-S is a genuine alternative for those who want/need low weight in a sturdy and solid body. It's not for everyone but neither is the F5. > For me the existence of MZ-S makes sense only if it was meant to pave a trail for >something stronger, because it is too >much an experimental product. But what makes you think that MZ-S is intended as a top-of-the-line body? In my opinion everything points to the MZ-S as a second or so body in the line-up as it was released with a mid-line flash and lens. Pal - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
