I have the same flash, and I haven't noticed any more drain on the camera 
batteries than with no flash (I use it on an ME Super and a P30T).
The flash itself does tend to go through AA's pretty quickly though... 
NiMH cells and a charger are a good investment. I keep two sets in 
rotation.
