The problem with that approach is, using backend-specific replication "marries" one to that particular technology, as it is backend-specific. The question is not one of "how much does it cost to get the technology in", but "how much does it cost to get it out". It almost sounds like pdns should or could be doing more with the NOTIFY message. Or no?
