I don't know. Back when I was still (more of) a noob and was trying to figure out which command line editor to use, I tired both Vi and
emacs. I managed to pick up Vi (Vim later, once I downloaded all 12-billion of the tar files) in a few minutes with a little cheat sheet that I
wrote based off the manual, and haven't had any trouble with it since. I tried to use emacs, but after spending half an hour just trying to
figure out how to quit, I finally sacrificed the whole terminal to the Gods of the BitBuckets, along with my file. For all of Vi's
crypticness, I had less trouble grasping it than I did emacs.
(Sorry if the formatting of this message is all screwed up. Thunderbird decided not to wrap text @72chr anymore for some reason,
even though it still is configured to do so, so I'm wrapping it to the size of the window by hand. And it also has randomly chosen different fonts throughout, which hopefully won't be transmitted through, but who knows... Go team Thunderbird!)
