Dear group,

During my initial exploration of distros for amd64, I found the SUSE 9.2 eval dvd to be a very trouble-free install and worthy of further consideration.

When I went on the Novell web site, I found an announcement of a newer SUSE 9.3; tried to follow the link to order it, link was broken. Today, I phoned Novell to order the 9.3 at upgrade price and concurrently tried to place an order on the web site (not running under SUSE OS, but using Mac OS X this time). I successfully placed an order for the full box set of SUSE 9.3 workstation pro, upgrade edition (fewer printed manuals than full price version).

I am finally getting around to attempting a Linux install on my Gateway 200 laptop; and SUSE 9.3 is certainly a top candidate. If anyone can recommend other distros that have good laptop support, e.g., Centrino wireless , I'd appreciate this info.

Also, I have some Firewire devices and I believe that any distro with a recent enough 2.6.x kernel should meet my needs for Firewire support.

regards,

Rodney
