I'll add in my 2 cents...Nagios is a holistic monitoring system--does most
if not all of the things that enterprise solutions like HP OpenView do...for
an upper 5 figure cost.
So while there is a definite learning curve, if you're wanting something
solid I'd recommend it. I know of hosting companies that use Nagios
internally, so it's very reliable and proven software.
