The problem is that you *usurped* the name of an established group.
This pollutes the namespace.  Sure, it isn't *your* problem.  You're
just the one being the polluter.

If someone new started writing books with the name "Randal L. Schwartz",
you don't think I'd have a right to wonder the motivation?


After two years of repetetive explaination? Yeah, I would wonder. However, we aren't publishing books. There is no profit motive here. We are cool people who want to have a meeting.

Can you find a better analogy? I can't really make any interesting argument with that one. In fact, it so poorly applies to the situation and I can't take it further, focus on one (seemingly inconsequential) point, or do anything to disprove it. It does all that for me.
