I'm still learning Ruby. Mostly as a way to do Rails. I'm a Java developer. I'm interested in attending one of these and wondering when the next one is and if it would be bad to have people in attendance, such as myself, who are Ruby newbies.

Given the experience last Saturday, a newbie would do fine, as long as you had curiosity and maybe some patience. Many (most?) folks there were in the "just getting started" phase of Rails, and I think (from what I heard) that everyone learned a lot -- and probably faster than trying to work it out through a book.

Also, the pair programming techniques (which we used informally) work really well with someone who's a novice pairing with someone who's more of an expert. Not only is the knowledge transfer more efficient, there's real quality to be gained from "beginner's mind."

So, please come to the next one! (We don't actually have a "next one" planned, though. Any suggestions for projects?)
