I definitely prefer to stay on grid 10, but over the years I have received
schematics on grid 5 and grid 1 in Protel. In retrospect it does work,
primarily due to the 'snap to end of pin' function. It can be alot of work to
move everything to grid 10 and if you do I would recommend taking a netlist
before and after for comparison.
It is much more tedious to edit schematics on grid 1 and there are more
opportunities to make or not make intended connections inadvertently.
Use the ERC, although it does not catch everything. :(
I have found it worthwhile to redraw wires as one run pin to pin. Alot of
designers seem to chunk together wires, rather than stretching or extending.
These random wire ends can be trouble if they happen to land on a pin end or
another wire end.
