I agree, but the fact that PCAD viewer opens both the Schematic and PCB files, 
tells me they are PCAD.

Looks like your files are actually ACCEL files (approx. 1999-2000) rather than 
PCAD. Don't know what the differences may be but I would bet there may be 
significant differences in the db structure.

The PCAD viewer did not indicate the version the files were developed under. 
When I looked at the file in ASCII mode this showed as the file header.
