Hi Ray,
Yes it is magic! Now the only question, is it White magic (Protel) or
Black magic (Microsoft - Jet Database)? 8^>
I would suggest that you first save your files, outside of the existing
DDB. That way you have copies external to the Jet database (DDB). Then you
could try using the repair tool (under the menu left-hand Down Arrow, Design
Utilities, Repair Tab) on the existing DDB. If that doesn't clear things up,
you could try the compression tool (same location, Compact Tab) but I wouldn't
hold out high hopes. If both fail and you have your files external to the DDB,
delete the original DDB and make a new one, importing your individual files
back into the new DDB.
Can't say that I have ever previously heard of a problem like you are
experiencing but I have heard a lot of rumors/grumblings about Microsoft's Jet
Database system being notoriously bad. That said I used the DDB system for 4
years without any major problems at a previous employer, a few minor
glitches/gotchas that were easily fixed/resolved.

Subject: [PEDA] PCB disappears when ddb name is changed
Okay, here's a weird one:
I'm using Protel 99SE with the latest service pack on WinXP with all
updates. I created a schematic and a PCB layout just fine. A month later
I opened the project and everything looked fine except the .pcb sheet,
which was totally blank! After much fooling around I simply changed the
name of the .ddb file and reopened it. Like magic, the .pcb sheet now has
my layout back on it! When I change the .ddb back to the original name the
.pcb sheet is again blank. When I copy the original .ddb file to a
different computer the .pcb sheet is not blank. Is this magic or what!
Thanks,
Ray
