Jami,
Went south? Maybe it is just on an extended vacation, maybe it is just pouting,
sounds like you have been neglecting it for quite a while. 8^>
Wow, I am not sure about your overall problem but it may be related to
the one minor detail. The *.LDB is a locking file, they are created by Protel
every time a Protel database is opened. They are also created for your library
files when they are being accessed by a user. In your case the *.LDB file is
obviously not being deleted when the database is closed because of the crashes,
that's a common occurrence.
My thoughts were that possibly the remaining *.LDB files are the
culprit causing your crashes in the first place. I believe there is a set-up in
the Protel configuration menu (remember the big Down Arrow)that may relate to
opening the locked databases. I have been known to delete a few *.LDB files
myself after crashes.
Don't forget about the database repair utility under the Big Down Arrow either.
You could try running it on one of the problem files.
And if all else fails, I would try and move those files off the laptop
and open them on another work station (not across the network to that laptop
like it sounds that you have already tried). Still not back to flying like an
eagle, try a complete clean re-install of Protel on the laptop.
Sincerely,
