Exactly why I don't intend to make much use of Windows XP or Vista.
Windows 2000 was the last version of Windows you could run without this
restriction, which will probably make it the longest surviving version. I
will run XP on my laptop because that's what it came with. But when it
finally refuses to do what it's supposed to do, I will format over it with
Ubuntu or whatever the best alternative is at that point in time.

Wow, that's quite a scenario you've dreamed up!

So maybe *you* chose the wrong career ;-) Or didn't leave it at the right
time. I'm just kidding - sort of. It does seem that the measure of
success in engineering is how soon you get to leave the field for
management, retirement, etc. I'm still searching for my 20's SI
model...we've got a lot of them at FSU, but my office is not near campus.
Maybe I need to rent office space in the student union...

Well, if it were me I'd put on my best salesman act and try to sweet-talk
some of those hot trophy chicks. Chances are with enough salesman BS
("sweetie, my hardware will really bring out the color of your eyes") one
of them would take a liking to me. So maybe you just need to think of
"alternative solutions" to the problem ;-)

The problem is that only people who can enforce these laws don't understand
how those laws are being violated. And even if they did understand, you
would have to pay them (it's called lobbying) to care.
