My joint paper with Verônica Filíppovna "What is a Diagram?"
was recently published in the journal Al Mukhatabat, number 54 (2025):
https://www.jyb-logic.org/diagram-alm.html
Our characterization is close to the following comments by Peirce that we
cite on page 148:
“A diagram should be as iconic as possible; that is, it should represent
relationships by means of visible relations analogous to them.
Icons are especially requisite for reasoning. A diagram is mainly an icon,
and an icon of intelligible relations."
