This is a fascinating lecture that I generally agree with! It has tremendous
implications in all sorts of fields including all aspects of computerized
language. As you listen to it, simultaneously have the Closed Captions on which
- though it is TOTALLY moronic - has the virtue of making Lakoff's enunciated
words clear, keeping them retained in memory, and experimenting with the very
ideas he is talking about! If the word processor text he was reading from was
available, it might be better - but that would be a great subject for an
experiment would it not? You may have to listen to this two or three times. Do
not get suckered in, but I think you will find Lakoff's ideas, as I myself have
found them in the past, infinitely suggestive if not perfectly valid in some
variable literal sense - or both! Please tell me what you yourself discover!
Truly,
Gary C. Moore
