Dear Mary, John S., lists -

John already gave the background of the dabbit-ruck.
Peirce, however, has a drawing stating some related (though not quite
identical) points. from the Lectures on Pragmatism, 1903, 5.183 - a curved
line which may alternately be perceived as a stone wall. P claims he took it
from one of his father's lectures.

Frederik and Tullio, isn't this Peirce's sketch of the rabbit-duck, at the top
of the first page of Harvard's Philosophical Psychology Laboratory?
http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~ppl/

Do you know if that image comes from his work at John's Hopkins, which Max
Fisch mentions in Freeman's (Ed.) The Relevance of Charles Peirce?

Btw, Max also mentions there that Peirce dated less than a fourth of his
unpublished writings, making the task of reconstructing the chronology
dependent on all surviving evidence, "to assign at least approximate dates."

Digitization of the mss must maximize whatever evidence may be needed! We plan
to begin tests for this purpose. —Mary
