List, I would like to announce the recent publication of a paper by a scholar whom I'm sure many of you know or at least have heard of, namely, Vinicius Romanini. "A Periodic Table for Peirce's Sixty-Six Classes of Signs <https://muse.jhu.edu/pub/34/article/939554>," published open source by *The Pluralist*. I can heartily recommend this paper and Vinicius' work in general.
In recent off List correspondence with Vinicius I remember when many years ago he first began work on his Periodic Table of the 66 Classes of Signs. He and I had several off List discussions of his work as I was then keenly interested in it to the extent that I put all 66 sign classes on index cards and literally strung them up with thick twine on a large bulletin board in an attempt to understand what he was up to. Much later, I was able to present a paper of his at a NYC biosemiotics conference when he was prevented from doing so because of a passport issue. I finally met Vinicius in person at the Peirce Centennial at UMass. If, after reading the "A Periodic Table for Peirce's Sixty-Six Classes of Signs," you are interested in learning more about Romanini's work, please check out his website: https://minutesemeiotic.org I might add that I have always seen Vinicius as a scholar who early on firmly adopted Peirce's principle (in Romanini's words) of "embody[ing] the pragmatic precept of scientific research animated by a community interested in the search for truth." Today he concluded the email in which he sent the link to this paper by writing, "It may be of interest to some members, although certainly my view and understanding of the problem is not unanimous. But science develops with a hint of boldness accompanied by severe criticism. My boldness is done, let the criticism come." I am as certain of it as anything that Vinicius will welcome any criticism members of this forum might offer. Best, Gary R
