Dear subscriber,

The Australian Government has now passed legislation that will introduce
the Maritime Crew Visa on 1 July 2007.

The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Kevin Andrews, made the
announcement on 10 May 2007.  To read the media release see Announcement

Please note that Maritime Crew Visa application forms, both internet and
paper, will only be available from 1 July 2007.  From this date there
will be a six month transitional period to allow the maritime industry
to become accustomed to the new requirement and to enable visa
applications prior to
1 January 2008, when the visa becomes mandatory for all foreign sea
crew.
