Dear subscriber, The Australian Government has now passed legislation that will introduce the Maritime Crew Visa on 1 July 2007. The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Kevin Andrews, made the announcement on 10 May 2007. From this date there will be a six month transitional period to allow the maritime industry to become accustomed to the new requirement and to enable visa applications prior to 1 January 2008, when the visa becomes mandatory for all foreign sea crew.
