jamz ================================= Dear List The last week has been a sad one for Adventism in the South Pacific. In anticipation of the Pope's visit to Australia for World Youth Day, the state government passed a law making it an offence to "annoy" a pilgrim - punishable with a $5500 fine. I am pleased to say that the federal court has now struck down the law for being too broad, however it is a frightening thing that legislators could even consider such a law. For those who are thinking that this is just Australia - you ought to bear in mind that their constitutional provision protecting religious freedom is almost identical to the 1st amendment of the US constitution. Despite the key role played by Adventists in the creation of the constitutional protections in Australia - Adventists were nowhere to be seen in this recent crisis. The law was challenged by a consortium of Gays Lesbians and Atheists! The Adventist Church's involvement in World Youth Day has been far more sinister. Sanitarium Health Foods, one of the largest if not the largest manufacturing businesses owned by the church.is the official supplier of breakfast cereals for WYD. She will be singing at stations of the cross 10 and 11, as well as singing for the Mass conducted by Pope B. This "opportunity for ministry" was stated as having been "sent by God" as a means of outreach. Brothers and Sisters, spiritually speaking -this is a call to arms! Please pray for us and especially for the faithful ministers that work in this Division. Surely the Lord will not hold back the winds for long.
