Dear sir:
Updating Pastor Martin Niemoeller for 1994 and Prop. 187:
"In California they came first for the illegal immigrant
children, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't an illegal
immigrant child. Then they came for the folks who looked
"Hispanic" and I didn't speak up because I didn't look Hispa-
nic. Then they came for the Black folks who academics had
labeled intellectually inferior, and I didn't speak up because I
wasn't Black. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak
up because I wasn't Jewish. Then they came for me, and by
that time no one was left to speak up."
Sincerely,
James Devine
in pen-l solidarity,
Jim Devine
