Perth is one of the most beautiful cities in Australia, especially if like open spaces, swimming, bush walking, camping close by; it has a bit of "culture" and excellent library facilities at Curtin and the other universities. Most of us receive about $4,500 for conference and book purchases a year; plus there are many opportunities for applying for $7,000 - $20,000 for research. We also get other research monies for publications and conference presentation etc (possibly $2,000 per year for a couple of each). Good luck, Phil O'Hara, Econ, Curtin Uni: email [EMAIL PROTECTED] PS: Lecturer is similar to Assistant professor. But I think the tenure conditions are better here than in the USA. Long service leave after 7 years; 6 months outside study leave every three years.
