outside of the high level of abstraction of vol. I of CAPITAL
this doesn't happen, as the "transformation problem" demonstrates.
Maybe I misunderstand.

The transformation problem is basically removing of the above assumption. I
don't think we have any significant disagreement here. But I think by the word
"law" in the law of value, Marx is basically refering to what the Sraffians
call the gravitational point.
