Given the general underpopulation in many parts of Africa, you can see the impact that slavery, colonialism, and post-colonial wars have had on the population. Countries like Angola, which has extremely fertile soil, have suffered the most from the slave trade, Portuguese ultra-colonialism, and the CIA/apartheid backed civil war. One can only wonder where the World Bank, the IMF, and Structural Adjustment Policy will fit into the list of plagues. As it is now, large sections of the country are depopulated by war, and much of the land is littered with mines (note: Angola's largest domestic industry is artificial limbs).
