Trond, You are not alone in regarding much of the talk of globalization as 'hype'. However, I believe that there IS something beneath the hype. I will try to send to pen-l a text file of a short piece which I wrote several months ago, which appeared in the Bulletin of the Centre for Industrial Policy and Performance, no.8.
