September 9, 1996 marks the 48th Anniversary of the founding of the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), established under the
leadership of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung on September 9, 1948.
On this important occasion, thinking people express their congratulations to
the people of the DPRK and wish them ever greater successes in
the coming year.
The founding of the DPRK was a historic event of great
significance in the life of the Korean people. It enabled them to
become a dignified and independent nation and take their destiny
into their own hands for the first time in Korea's long national
history. It also furnished them with a crucial weapon to
successfully carry out the task of building a new society.
For nearly half a century since its founding, under the
leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and the great leader Kim
Il Sung, the DPRK pursued a victorious road of struggle and
victory, heroically overcoming the difficulties imposed on it as a
result of the division of the Korean nation and the occupation of
south Korea by the U.S. imperialists, and the successive fascist
regimes in the south of the country established by the U.S.
imperialists. Only two years following the founding of the DPRK,
the Korean people had to face the armed invasion of the U.S.
imperialists and their allies, operating under the U.N. flag. They
fought a three-year war during which they successfully defended the
independence of the country and the sovereignty of the nation,
forcing the U.S. imperialists to sign an armistice through which
the U.S. had to acknowledge the failure of their attempt to take
over the entire Korean Peninsula.
On the occasion of the 48th Anniversary of the Founding of the
DPRK, the Central Korean News Agency points out:
"The DPRK has undertaken creative and constructive projects on
an unprecedented scale according to the far-reaching plans of the
Party. In the past few years alone, large numbers of lasting
monumental edifices have been built everywhere in the country, as
well as in Pyongyang, the capital, and the wealth of our
civilization has increased, bringing about a change in the
country's appearance. Under the energetic guidance of Comrade Kim
Jong Il, the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, the
fighting capacity of the forces has increased beyond measure. A
nationwide, all-people defence system has been further consolidated
to enable it to smash all anti-DPRK, anti-socialist moves by the
imperialists and reactionaries and to advance confidently along the
socialist road it has chosen itself.
"The Korean people entrust their destiny to the government of
the DPRK established by Comrade Kim Il Sung and today led by the
great Comrade Kim Jong Il. By developing the DPRK, the Korean
people will gain a brilliant victory for the socialist cause
everywhere. They are confident of a great future in which they will
live independent, full and creative lives."
