As much as I love a good media prank (and the AP deserves to be burned when they do the loosest checking facts and continually publishing public relations spins as fact), there are in fact restrictive school decisions coming out of Utah around sexuality. The Salt Lake City school board banned all student groups because they could not just ban a lesbian/gay/bisexual student group. Anyway, pick up the Spring 1997 issue of Rethinking Schools (a highly recommended resource and excellent newsjournal) to read about what school boards are doing about student activism around homosexuality. Or browse toward: http://www.rethinkingschools.org/Archives/curriss.htm This would also be a good time to plug Rethinking Schools latest book: *Funding for Justice: Money, Equity, and the Future of Public Education,* Edited by Stan Karp, Robert Lowe, Barbara Miner, and Bob Peterson. This book includes a popular economic piece on taxes by myself as well as pieces by Art MacEwen, Jonothan Kozol, and others. Its very cheap (you can order for classrooms for $3-$4) and at least some educators are using in their classrooms (although the subject matter may not fit economics classes as well).
