I must admit I didn't doubt it at first, even though some of the names should have been a tip-off (e.g., Janabell Millett, Filene Dunnbody, and especially "C. K. Woodworth, A.P. remote correspondent." There was also the bit with 'the cheese stands alone.') One could also say it is a parody of liberal views of religious people.
