If you're interested in dissing rock 'n roll check out Monthly Review's most recent socialist-realist critique of do it yourself music. Its major finding is that the popular music industry is an integral part of class society and that we can't all grow up to be rock 'n roll stars. There is an interesting screed within a screed against alcohol. Apparently, no one at MR has ever done any good drugs.
