The defense was unnecessary, Jim, because what I wrote wasn't accusing you.
I was trying to explain something that I wrote earlier, which you said you
couldn't follow. I take it you're still not following my argument. I am
sorry if you mistook a few flippant remarks as an attack on you. They were
meant to disclaim suspicions of "scholasticism" on my part. 

It's o.k., Jim, I guess it _is_ a leprous idea after all. For twenty years,
whenever I've brought it up, I've encountered incomprehension, indignation
and outrage. I might as well tell people they've really subsumed their dad
and formally subsumed their mom. Every once in a while I bring it out of the
closet to see if it still gets the same reaction. I still don't fully
understand the response, that's why it fascinates me.
