Today's Financial Times has an article on how Eastern European are taking up American smokes. Of course the marketing prowess of U.S. tobacco has a lot to do with this, not to mention the "mystique" of America. But, why'd so many Eastern Europeans smoke in the days when there was no advertising? Doug
