I recommend Robin Moore, NATIONALIZING BLACKNESS: AFROCUBANISMO AND
ARTISTIC REVOLUTION IN HAVANA, 1920-1940, University of Pittsburgh, 1997.
Moore explains how race, culture, and national identity are linked in 20th
century Cuba. The book is also framed in terms of the contemporary racial
situation in Cuba. - John Exdell, Philosophy, Kansas State University.
