and what about President Brendan O'Yeltsin? I'm afraid this story is very
reminiscent of that of the 1840s Irish spud shortage. People driven to
small plots of land to grow taters; tubers taking a larger and larger share
of the diet; a blight hits the crop while capitalist greed prevents relief
.... and suddenly the world is swamped by large numbers of refugees (while
millions starve). 

Here global warming seems to be playing a role, by disrupting normal
weather patterns.
