Who knows for sure, but I suspect that a certain tendency to ignore
unpleasantness or underestimate risk or to seal oneself off from danger is
"human nature," whatever that is, but that capitalism, especially American
capitalism, brings those tendencies to the forefront, to the occlusion of
more cooperative and sympathetic approaches.
