Anders point is well taken. I think that Louis was correct that the birth of LBO and Louis's marxism list took a toll on pen-l, while adding to to the whole. I think that Doug Henwood's postings to pen-l were a major contribution. Now, while Doug responds to material here, and always with great insight, his initial material appears on LBO. In fact, recently I have been reading more about economic issues on LBO than on pen-l. On the other hand, LBO veers more into cultural matters, giving the two lists a very different flavor. I wish that people would step up to the plate more. Many people on the list have valuable information, yet they prefer to lurk. I appreciate the jokes and banter on pen-l. I would not want to participate in a group of morose individual, even if their politics were sympathetic to my own. I also think that the cultural insights that I read are very valuable. I know that I sometimes act as a nanny, asking people to talk more about specific issues -- intellectual property being a prime case. Even so, when we are good, we are very good. I just wish that we would be better. We have people from E. Asia, but we hear nothing about how the crisis is playing/played out there. We have people from Mexico and Brazil and Turkey, and even you Anders, from Norway. Tell us. Teach us. While Marx was a great theoretician, he was a voracious collector of facts from all over. I do not think that he could have done what he did without all that information. Let's get to work! By the way, I have very much appreciated the way that we have behaved toward each other. -- Michael Perelman Economics Department California State University Chico, CA 95929 Tel. 530-898-5321 E-Mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
