Bowles & Edwards' UNDERSTANDING CAPITALISM is pretty accessable, though they fetishize their math too much and it's a bit dated. And Edwards, Reich, & Weisskopf's THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM has some good stuff, though that book may be out of print.
