In e-mail discussions with the late Jim Blaut in 1996-8 , he never counld
explain why the 'theory'
of so-called national liberation of colonies since WW1 with the cross
class blocs of forces always
ended up with the national bourgeois on top and the toiling masses urban
and rural, politically
and economically hogtied and repressed, many times in blood , and under
the gun from their new nationally liberated regimes and their patrons..
Blaut's achilles heel was his failure to see the role of the arriving
dominance of capitalist world economy--
and the rise of state capitalism as well. No nat-libber outfits can be
really successful now (post WW1) except via massive aid -econ-military "
aid "from one group of rival imperialist powers trying to use the nat-lib
wars to unseat the hegemony of another colonial/semi colonial/
capitalist power. After "independence" the new country finds itself in the
thralldom, economically, politically, but now to its main backers, in
order to accumunlate capital and keep the nationalist bourgeois regime
from collapse .
This is why , after the end of the Cold War (circa 1991) you had numerous
phoney third world national
lib regimes drop the label of 'marxism-leninism" from their state
propaganda and quickly became
born-again free marketeer capitalists , without there having been an iota
of change in the laws of motion
in the economic basis of these regimes, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau,
FMLN-El Salvador , Nicaraguan Sandinistas etc. (None of them had anything
to do with workers socialism.)
Also the chief state cap regimes of phoney "'real socialism" , Eastern
Europe , USSR en bloc had imploded
and these fake 'marxist-leninists" by the division had/have now become
open "capitalist beeezzneezzzmen' ,
using their state cap positions to accumulate capital and put in private
hands the ownersip of thousands
of enterprises, by swindling the workers with phoney 'stock ownership'
papers that were not even worth the
paper they were printed on, and the 'democracy" to even vote early whilst
the rulers can vote often.
The nationally libbed bourgeoisie is an integrated part of the world
bourgeoisie, for example the bourgeois of the Arab oil states, etc . invest
in European and American companies, banks and stock exchanges and they
don't give a rats patoot about so-called 'industrailization ' and
'modernization' unless the level of profits
attained is sufficiently high enough--just like the bourgeois in the big
powers! Ditto for most all the other
nat-libbed bourgeois of this 'globalized' capital age. Blaut just seemd to
throw his hands in the air when confronted with this ugly reality. Another
case of one who had a career of trying to put politically round pegs
in square holes.
None of all the dozens of Nat-libb states has liberated anybody but the
national bourgeoisie and their new
imperialist big power corporate patrons, and both suck the masses dry.
The workers strrugle can be most powerful by rejecting alliances with the
bourgelos class and sticking to the
(world) working class terrain of struggle .
These cross-class alliances, needed perhaps to go beyond feudal
bonds/restrictions in a previous historical age , are outmoded and even
reactionary for the masses interests today.
