Just what the peasants thought about their little father the Czar until
his cossacks taught them better. But then it was too late.

Once when the Eisenhower administration was announcing a
policy they expected some static on, Good old Ike told his
press secretary, if they give us static, I'll just dumb it up.

But it's silly to argue. As Tom says, it's axiomatic. And it's
really not very easy to carry on a conversation about
politics with anyone who can't grasp the political equivalent
of a + b = b + a.
