Building a culture of democracy.
A workshop on union democracy with Noel Acevedo (TWU
100/New Directions) and
Matt Noyes (AUD) session 1 of the AUD spring class
series.
Noel Acevedo is the new Recording Secretary of
Transport Workers Union Local
100, and a long time member of the New Directions
caucus. This is a rare
opportunity to discuss one of the key themes in union
democracy and reform
organizing with a talented and thoughtful activist who
is playing a key role
in one of the most important reform struggles in
recent history.
This workshop is hands-on, and participatory, with
valuable materials. Union
democracy is more than union constitutions and Roberts
Rules. We will look
at the different elements of union democracy and
discuss how activists can
change the culture of their unions as rank and file
members, and as
officers. Special attention will be given to the role
that a caucus can play
in helping to transform the culture of the union, and
tools you can use to
make democracy part of your organizing.
